Listen to CELDF’s radio program – Democracy Matters – every Thursday at 10am Eastern/7am Pacific at KYRS, Spokane’s Thin Air Community Radio.  You can also podcast the show each week at kyrs.org/podcasts.cfm, click on Democracy Matters.

On this week’s program, we talk with Shannon Biggs of Global Exchange – she’ll update us on efforts by public officials to keep a citizens initiative off the ballot in Mt. Shasta, CA.  In Mt. Shasta, the community has come together to put an initiative on the ballot to protect against corporate cloud seeding and water extraction.  In addition, we debate the proposed tax rate changes in the Congress and discuss how the environmental regulatory system really works.  We’ll take a look at some real-world examples with communities fighting “fracking” and the bottling of their water for commercial sale.

Each week on Democracy Matters we bring you stories from the frontlines as communities bring rights-based organizing to their communities – asserting their local self-governing authority to make the critical decisions that affect their lives and their community.

If you are interested in having Democracy Matters broadcast on your local community radio station, give them a call and let them know.
