Listen to CELDF’s radio program – Democracy Matters – every Thursday at 10 am Eastern/7am Pacific at www.kyrs.org.   You can also podcast the show each week at kyrs.org/podcasts.cfm, click on Democracy Matters.

On this week’s program, we take a look at how states are rising up to challenge the federal health care bill in court – charging that the bill is unconstitutional and violates state sovereignty under the 10th Amendment. We interview Shannon Biggs of Global Exchange about communities in California who are beginning to revolt against the state and the federal government in the name of environmental sustainability. And we explore “Dillon’s Rule” – a legal doctrine that lays out the relationships between states and communities as that of one to a parent to a child – part of the reason why communities find that they’re prevented by the state from making critical decisions to protect the public health and environment.

Each week we bring you stories from the frontlines as communities bring rights-based organizing to their communities – asserting their local self-governing authority to make the critical decisions that affect their lives and their community.
