Are you interested in advancing Community Rights laws in your state?
Community Rights includes Rights of Nature, such as the right of ecosystems to flourish and evolve; environmental rights, such as the right to clean air, pure water, and healthy soil; worker rights, such as the right to living wages and equal pay for equal work; and democratic rights, such as the right of local community self-government, and the right to free and fair elections. The legal side of establishing protection for these rights can be quite complex, however. That’s why we’ve drafted a helpful DIY Community Rights guide for you to use while navigating the system.

The DIY Lawmaking Guide explains why many communities and local governments are taking a direct stand against corporations and the legal and governing structures that enable them. It explains how they’re taking that stand – by enacting laws that expand rights, health, and safety protections for people and ecosystems. The Guide provides guidance on drafting, enacting, and enforcing Community Rights laws.
More than 200 communities across the country have adopted Community Rights laws, including the Rights of Nature. Growing numbers of communities are joining them, as more and more people recognize the need to change our structure of law and governance. They understand it’s time to put people’s human rights and the rights of ecosystems above corporate claimed “rights” and top-down state power. The DIY Guide will provide useful tools for communities to move forward with this necessary change.
