As past and contemporary people’s movements have demonstrated, to achieve fundamental social change – civil rights, abolition, suffrage – movements must succeed in making major legal and cultural change. Shifts in culture occur when we are able to “lift the veil” on how an existing legal and governing system works against the interests of its own people, communities, and environment.
CELDF has found, as we build a new people’s movement, that central to our work, thus, is revealing how the system of law and governance really works and who it works for.
Through this website, our Democracy Schools and other trainings, and our organizing and legal work, CELDF is sharing the stories of how government and corporate interests are together protecting and perpetuating a legal and governing system that advances the interests of the few over the many. We are also sharing how a new movement is forming, to change this system, and how you can become involved.
