Democracy School: Igniting a Rights Movement for Communities and Nature

what’s happening?

Communities across the state of Virginia are threatened with innumerable social and environmental injustices – from fracked gas pipelines to ICE raids to below poverty wages.

This fall, community members are gathering in Harrisonburg, Virginia, for CELDF’s newly updated Democracy School: Igniting a Rights Movement for Communities and Nature. In the School, residents will engage in a participatory workshop to explore the barriers we face to healthy, just, and sustainable communities: how the barriers function, where they came from, what over 200 communities have done to challenge those barriers, and what Virginia communities can do today.
