The Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded to pursue the following goals:
- Provide free legal services to citizen organizations that are pursuing sustainable environmental practices;
- Provide free legal services to citizen organizations that are seeking to preserve open spaces, woodlands, and farmland within their municipalities;
- Litigate creative new legal strategies that reassert citizen sovereignty over corporations;
- Provide a resource and networking center for those organizations and individuals who will be seeking elected office as independent candidates on environmental platforms;
- Provide free non-profit incorporation to environmental organizations.
CELDF has assisted hundreds of organizations and local governments with the services listed above. In line with CELDF’s focus on environmental and social justice issues, the Fund handles a Speakers Bureau, which places special emphasis on educating audiences about the "people's history" of who makes decisions for our communities, as well as strategies for orgnizing people to change the top-down power structure. Our Speakers are available for community groups, student, environmental and service organizations at affordable honorarium costs.
A portion of the honorarium expenses are donated directly to the work of the Legal Defense Fund, and thus University organizations that host Speakers are not only supporting the individual work of the hosted Speakers but also the valuable work of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF).
For specific inquiries on available dates, honorarium costs, and to book Speakers for specific events, contact the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund via e-mail at info@celdf.org.
